Past MeetingSunday, August 12th
Room 101, Casa del Prado, Balboa Park In August, Jonas Dupuich will be returning to show us what we can learn from trees at different stages of development. Mr. Dupuich has been growing and writing about bonsai in Northern California for more than 20 years. Within months of starting his first bonsai, he began growing black and red pine from seed. Although his collections contains many varieties, pines remain somewhat of a first love for him. Always interested in sharing what he’s learned, Mr. Dupuich began writing about bonsai at bonsaitonight.com in 2009. To date, he’s published hundreds of how-to articles and reports from bonsai events around the world. Most of his study has been in California with Boon Manakitivipart and Daisaku Nomoto. In 2011, he had the opportunity to apprentice at Aichi-en with Junichiro Tanaka for two months, during which time he prepared trees for exhibits and worked on bonsai in Mr. Tanaka’s collection. Mr. Dupuich now works on bonsai full-time and travels to Japan regularly to visit exhibits and purchase supplies for his business. Learn more at bonsaitonight.com. He will also be available for a two-hour bring your own tree workshop Sunday morning at 8:15AM.. The cost of this workshop will be $25. In addition, two, 4-hour, bring your own tree workshops will be held on Saturday August 11th at the home of Fred Miyahara. The cost of this workshop will be $50. Space is still available for all of these workshops. Please contact Darryl Elmer droadie@sbcglobal.net for information or to sign up. |
